before going to bed

    1. Say (O Muhammad (to the people)): “He is The God, (The) One.

    2. “The God. The Self-Sufficient Master.

    3. “He begets not, nor was He begotten;

    4. “And there is none like unto Him.”)

    5. “Who whispers in the breasts of mankind,

    6. “Of jinns & men (because there are devils from among both, man & jinn.”)]

[The God! There is no god but He, The Ever Living, The One Who sustains & protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him.

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens & whatever is on earth.

Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He Knows what happens to them (His Creatures) in this world, & what will happen to them in The Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills.

His Throne extends over the heavens & the earth, & He feels no fatigue in guarding & preserving them. And He is The Most High, The Most Great. [Verse 2:255]]

[(The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, & [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in The God & His Angels & His Books & His Messengers, (saying), “We make no distinction between any of His Messengers.” And they say, “We hear & we obey. (We seek) Your forgiveness, our Lord, & to You is the (final) destination.”

The God does not charge a soul except (with that within) its capacity. It will have (the consequence of) what (good) it has gained, & it will bear (the consequence of) what (evil) it has earned.)

(“Our Lord, punish us not when we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, & lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, & burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; & forgive us; & have mercy upon us. You are our Protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”

(2:285, 286)]

(These two Verses will be sufficient for anyone who recites them at night before sleeping.)]

[(in Your Name, my Lord, I lay myself down & by Your Leave, I rise. And if my soul You take, have mercy on it, & if You send it back then protect it as You Protect Your righteous slaves.)]

(If any of you rises from his bed & later returns to it, let him dust off his bed with his waist garment three times & mention The Name of The God, for he does not know what may have entered the bed after him, & when he lies down he should say: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

(bismillah=which means; in The Name of The God)]

[(O The God, You have created my soul & You take it back. Unto You is its death & its life. If You give it life then protect it, & if You cause it to die then forgive it. O The God, I ask You for strength.)]

[(In Your Name, O The God, I die & I live.)]

[(Glory is to The God. (33 times)

Praise is to The God. (33 times)

The God is The Most Great. (34 times)]

[(O The God! Lord of the seven heavens & Lord of The Magnificent Throne. Our Lord & The Lord of everything. Splitter of the grain & the date stone, Revealer of The Torah & The Gospel & The Furqan (The Qur’an), I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything that You shall seize by the forelock. O The God You are The First & nothing has come before You, & You are The Last, & nothing may come after You. You are The Most High, nothing is above You & You are The Most Near & nothing is nearer than You. Remove our debts from us & enrich us against poverty.)]

[(Praise is to The God, Who has provided us with food & with drink, sufficed us & gave us an abode, for how many are there with no provision and no home.)]

[(O The God, I submit myself to You, entrust my affairs to You, turn my face to You, & lay myself down depending upon You, hoping in You & fearing You. There is no refuge, & no escape, except to You. I believe in Your Book (The Qur’an) that You Revealed, & The Prophet whom You sent.

(Before you go to bed perform ablutions as you would for prayer, then lie down on your right side & says this supplication. Whoever says this & dies in his sleep, has died in a state of the natural monotheism (i.e. Fitrah, the pure belief in The God as One God, the state all of mankind are born in)]

side note: one can pray any one of the above supplications or just 1, but one should remember The God before sleep.
